“Our Town” was written and performed by Randy Newman for Pixar’s Cars.
The song plays over the film’s closing credits and reflects the emotional transformation of Radiator Springs. Its lyrics evoke a once-busy town whose importance has faded, matching the film’s themes of changing roads, lost traffic, and community renewal.
Randy Newman composed the original score for Cars and wrote several songs associated with the film. “Our Town” earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song, adding major awards recognition to the movie’s musical identity.
It is easy to confuse “Our Town” with “Life Is a Highway,” which is also strongly associated with Cars but was recorded for the soundtrack by Rascal Flatts. “Real Gone” is another Cars song, performed by Sheryl Crow.
