What social media platform was founded by Mark Zuckerberg?

The story behind the answer

Facebook is the social media platform founded by Mark Zuckerberg. He launched it at Harvard in February 2004 with fellow students Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes.

The service originally operated as TheFacebook and was initially limited to Harvard students. It soon expanded to other colleges, then to universities more broadly, and eventually opened registration to people outside academic networks. The name came from “face books,” printed or online student directories used by some American colleges.

A common mix-up is confusing Facebook’s founder with the person who currently owns or manages the platform. Facebook is owned by Meta Platforms, the company formerly known as Facebook, Inc. Zuckerberg remains Meta’s co-founder, chairman, and chief executive. Instagram is also owned by Meta, but it was created independently and was not founded by Zuckerberg.
