McDonald’s launched the global slogan “I’m Lovin’ It” in 2003.
The campaign marked a major shift toward a single worldwide brand message. Instead of relying mainly on local slogans, McDonald’s used the short phrase across markets, languages, packaging, television advertising, and other communications.
The campaign is especially associated with a five-note musical hook and with singer Justin Timberlake, who appeared in an early promotional music video. The phrase itself was developed for McDonald’s international marketing and became one of the company’s most recognizable brand lines.
People sometimes mix it up with “You Deserve a Break Today,” a much older slogan from 1971. The two lines reflect different advertising eras: the earlier campaign emphasized taking a break, while “I’m Lovin’ It” focused on a contemporary, upbeat expression of enjoyment.
