The MPAA gave Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. a G rating for its original United States release.
A G classification indicated that the film was considered suitable for general audiences under the Motion Picture Association’s rating system. The story includes suspense, comic peril, and the idea of monsters frightening children, but it presents those elements in a family-oriented animated adventure.
The rating is sometimes confused with PG because several scenes involve pursuit, the scream-extraction machine, and the threat posed by Waternoose’s plan. Those moments create tension without changing the film’s general-audience classification.
Ratings in other countries use different systems and labels. A G rating in the United States should therefore not be treated as a universal international certificate, even though the film was broadly marketed to families worldwide.
