What price did Microsoft agree to pay for LinkedIn in 2016?

The story behind the answer

Microsoft agreed to pay $26.2 billion for LinkedIn in 2016.

The all-cash acquisition was announced on June 13, 2016, and completed in December that year. LinkedIn remained a distinct professional-networking brand after the deal, rather than being folded into Microsoft's consumer social products.

Microsoft said the purchase would combine LinkedIn's professional network and data with Microsoft's cloud, productivity, and enterprise software businesses. LinkedIn's chief executive, Jeff Weiner, stayed in his role after the acquisition, reporting to Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella.

The deal is sometimes confused with Microsoft's later acquisitions of GitHub and Activision Blizzard, which had different prices and strategic goals. LinkedIn was founded in 2003 and became a public company in 2011 before Microsoft bought it.
