Taylor Swift’s “august” finished at number 24 on Billboard’s 2020 year-end Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart.
The year-end ranking summarizes a song’s performance across the chart year rather than identifying its single-week peak. “august” reached number 5 on the weekly Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, but its year-end placement was number 24.
The result reflects the song’s strong debut alongside the rest of Folklore. Swift placed many songs from the album on charts at the same time, an effect often associated with major streaming-driven album releases.
This distinction is important because a weekly peak and a year-end position answer different questions. The number 24 is the annual ranking, while number 5 is the song’s highest weekly position on that genre chart.
