What phrase from Taylor Swift’s “august” became associated with TikTok’s recurring August trend?

“August slipped away” is the phrase from Taylor Swift’s “august” associated with TikTok’s recurring August trend.

The phrase comes from the song’s lyric about August slipping into a moment in time because the relationship was never truly hers. Its language captures the feeling of summer ending and a temporary romance becoming a memory.

Each year, creators commonly use the song or the phrase with videos documenting summer memories, trips, friendships, and seasonal transitions. The trend is not an official Taylor Swift event; it is a recurring fan and creator tradition that grew around the song’s title and imagery.

The wording is sometimes confused with another lyric in the same song, “August sipped away like a bottle of wine.” Both lines use August imagery, but the annual trend is generally identified by “August slipped away.”
