What Philadelphia building hosted the adoption of the United States Declaration of Independence?
Answer
Independence Hall
Answer
Independence Hall
Independence Hall hosted the adoption of the United States Declaration of Independence.
The building stood in Philadelphia as the Pennsylvania State House when the Second Continental Congress met there in 1776. Congress adopted the Declaration on July 4 and later debated the Articles of Confederation in the same building.
The Pennsylvania State House was renamed Independence Hall in the nineteenth century because of its association with the Declaration and the founding of the United States. The building also hosted the Constitutional Convention in 1787, where delegates drafted the United States Constitution.
Independence Hall is part of Independence National Historical Park and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Liberty Bell was originally installed in the building’s steeple, although the bell’s famous crack developed later and its precise history remains debated.
