What part of a chocolate bunny should be eaten first according to a majority of Americans?

The story behind the answer

According to a majority of Americans, the ears of a chocolate bunny should be eaten first. A survey of more than 28,000 Americans found that 59% chose the ears, making them the clear answer to this playful Easter question.

Chocolate bunnies are usually hollow chocolate figures molded in the shape of a rabbit and sold as seasonal Easter candy. Their form connects the modern confection to the Easter Bunny, a tradition influenced by German folklore and later popularized in the United States.

Manufacturers typically create the bunny using two separate molds. Liquid chocolate is poured in, the molds are rotated or shaken to coat the inside evenly, and the two halves are joined after hardening. This explains why many large bunnies are hollow rather than solid.

The ears are not necessarily the first part everyone eats: feet, tails, and the head also have plenty of supporters. But ears remain the majority preference in the survey. More than 90 million chocolate bunnies are produced annually for U.S. consumers, making this small choice part of a very large Easter tradition.
