Ghost Ranch was the New Mexico retreat Georgia O'Keeffe made famous through her paintings.
Ghost Ranch is a historic property near Abiquiú in northern New Mexico, surrounded by colorful cliffs and high desert terrain. O'Keeffe began visiting the area in the 1930s and rented a house there before later owning it.
The region supplied subjects for many of her paintings, including cliffs, ranch buildings, roads, and bones found in the landscape. She repeatedly returned to particular views, treating them as visual structures rather than merely recording scenery.
Ghost Ranch is sometimes confused with O'Keeffe's Abiquiú home, but they were distinct places. Her Abiquiú house became her main residence in later years, while Ghost Ranch remained an important source of imagery and a defining part of her New Mexico story.
