What New Mexico ranch became a major home and subject for Georgia O'Keeffe?
Answer
Ghost Ranch
Answer
Ghost Ranch
Ghost Ranch became a major home and subject for Georgia O'Keeffe in New Mexico.
O'Keeffe first visited the area in 1934 and returned regularly. The ranch lies near Abiquiú, north of Santa Fe, among dramatic cliffs, mesas, and desert formations. Its vivid colors and stark geological shapes became central to many of her paintings.
She later maintained a house in nearby Abiquiú as well as her Ghost Ranch residence. The two places are related but are not interchangeable: Ghost Ranch is the larger landscape setting, while the Abiquiú house was her more private home. O'Keeffe repeatedly painted local subjects, including the cliffs, hills, roads, and bones she encountered in the region.
