What New Mexico location supplied the title for many of Georgia O'Keeffe's landscape paintings?

The story behind the answer

Ghost Ranch supplied the title and setting for many of Georgia O'Keeffe's New Mexico landscape paintings.

Ghost Ranch is a dramatic property near Abiquiú in northern New Mexico, known for colorful cliffs, mesas, and broad desert views. O'Keeffe began spending time there in 1934 and later rented a house on the property. The landscape became one of the most recognizable environments in her work.

She repeatedly painted features such as the red and yellow hills, distant mountains, and the road leading through the terrain. Repetition did not mean she was making identical pictures; she altered scale, cropping, color, and viewpoint to explore the visual structure of the place.

Ghost Ranch is sometimes confused with O'Keeffe's separate home and studio in Abiquiú. Both locations were important, but they are different places. The Ghost Ranch area is now associated with public education, tourism, paleontology, and the continuing cultural memory of O'Keeffe's New Mexico years.
