Georgia O’Keeffe’s former residence and studio is in Abiquiú, New Mexico.
O’Keeffe began renting the Abiquiú property in 1945 and acquired it in 1949. She restored the adobe compound, which included a distinctive courtyard wall and a door that became a recurring subject in her paintings. The house gave her a permanent base near the landscapes she had long explored.
The property remained associated with her working life after her move to New Mexico. It is now preserved as the Georgia O’Keeffe Home and Studio and is open for limited tours through the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum.
Abiquiú is often confused with Ghost Ranch, another New Mexico location strongly connected with O’Keeffe. Ghost Ranch was a nearby retreat and source of imagery, while Abiquiú was the site of her home and studio.
