What New Mexico location did Georgia O'Keeffe acquire in 1940?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe acquired property at Ghost Ranch in 1940.

Ghost Ranch is a dramatic landscape near Abiquiú in northern New Mexico, known for colorful cliffs and broad desert views. O'Keeffe first encountered the area during her long visits to New Mexico and found its geological formations especially compelling as painting subjects.

She rented a house there before acquiring the property in 1940. The landscape supplied recurring motifs in works featuring cliffs, ranch buildings, roads, and distant formations. O'Keeffe often walked and explored alone, collecting objects and studying the effects of light across the terrain.

Ghost Ranch is sometimes confused with O'Keeffe's separate home in the village of Abiquiú. Both places mattered to her, but they were distinct properties. The Ghost Ranch setting became one of the clearest visual signatures of her New Mexico period.
