What New Mexico location became strongly associated with Georgia O'Keeffe?

The story behind the answer

Ghost Ranch became strongly associated with Georgia O'Keeffe.

The retreat in northern New Mexico lies near Abiquiú and is known for dramatic cliffs, mesas, and vivid colors. O'Keeffe first visited the area in the 1930s and repeatedly painted its bones, hills, and expansive formations.

Ghost Ranch offered a visual environment very different from the urban subjects she had painted in New York. Its isolated terrain helped reinforce the Southwestern imagery that became one of the most recognizable parts of her career.

Ghost Ranch is not the same as O'Keeffe's Abiquiú home. The two places are geographically related and often discussed together, but they were distinct settings. O'Keeffe also painted elsewhere in New Mexico, including the area around Cerro Pedernal, a mountain that became another recurring subject.
