What New Mexico location became a major home and source of subjects for Georgia O'Keeffe?

The story behind the answer

Ghost Ranch became a major home and source of subjects for Georgia O'Keeffe in New Mexico.

O'Keeffe first visited New Mexico in 1929 and repeatedly returned to its dry landscapes, cliffs, bones, and architectural forms. Ghost Ranch, near Abiquiu, provided the dramatic terrain that appears in many of her paintings from the 1930s onward. She eventually maintained a house there.

Her New Mexico work helped shift her public identity beyond the New York art world. Paintings of the region often use simplified shapes, strong colors, and carefully framed views rather than conventional landscape perspective.

Ghost Ranch and Abiquiu are related but not interchangeable. Ghost Ranch is the broad landscape area where she lived for periods, while Abiquiu is the nearby village and the location of another important house she acquired later.
