What network originally broadcast 'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation'?

The story behind the answer

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation originally broadcast on CBS. The network premiered the series on October 6, 2000, and carried its original 15-season run through the finale in 2015.

The show became one of CBS’s defining dramas and a major ratings success. Its combination of police investigation, laboratory science and visually striking crime-scene techniques helped make forensic procedurals a dominant television format during the 2000s.

The original CSI was produced through Jerry Bruckheimer Television and CBS’s production entities. Its success led to several related series, including CSI: Miami, CSI: NY and CSI: Cyber, but those spin-offs should not be confused with the network that launched the original program.

CBS also later aired CSI: Vegas, a sequel and revival connected to the original series. That follow-up premiered in 2021, more than two decades after the first CSI began on the network.
