What network originally aired 30 Rock?

The story behind the answer

30 Rock originally aired on NBC. The series premiered on October 11, 2006, and its fictional television workplace was designed around NBC's real studios and corporate culture.

The title refers to 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City, the landmark building associated with NBC Studios. Saturday Night Live is also produced there, and 30 Rock draws heavily on Tina Fey's experience working on that program. Inside the sitcom, TGS with Tracy Jordan is presented as an NBC sketch show made in the same creative world.

NBC gave 30 Rock a thirteen-episode order in 2006, and the show ultimately ran for seven seasons and 138 episodes. Its final regular episode aired on January 31, 2013. The network connection is therefore more than a plot detail: NBC commissioned and broadcast the real sitcom as well as serving as the fictional employer in its story.

Fox, CBS, and ABC are all major American broadcast networks, but none originally aired 30 Rock. The show's close identification with NBC also explains its frequent jokes about network executives, corporate mergers, programming decisions, and Saturday Night Live.
