Nine-time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen is Danish.
Born in Hobro, Denmark, in 1967, Kristensen became the most successful driver in the history of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He won the race nine times between 1997 and 2013, a record that surpassed Jacky Ickx's previous total of six victories.
Kristensen's first win came with Joest Racing in a Porsche WSC-95 in 1997. He later became especially associated with Audi, winning repeatedly with the marque's diesel-powered and hybrid-era prototypes. His 2005 victory was part of an extraordinary run: he won six consecutive editions from 2000 through 2005.
His nickname, “Mr. Le Mans,” reflects both his record and his consistency at the event. Nationality can be confused because many of Kristensen's teammates and rivals were German, Norwegian or Swedish, but Kristensen himself is Danish. He retired from top-level racing after the 2014 season and was inducted into the FIA Hall of Fame in 2018.
