Answer
Vehicle Assembly Building
Answer
Vehicle Assembly Building
NASA displayed the United States Bicentennial logo on the Vehicle Assembly Building during 1976.
The Vehicle Assembly Building, or VAB, stands at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Constructed for assembling the Saturn V rocket, it was one of the largest buildings in the world by volume when completed and became an immediately recognizable landmark of the American space program.
NASA painted the Bicentennial logo on the building during the 1976 anniversary year. The mark remained there until 1998, when NASA replaced it with its own emblem during celebrations of the agency’s 40th anniversary.
The VAB should not be confused with Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Control Center or Mission Control facilities. Rockets were assembled vertically inside the VAB, then moved to launch pads. The Bicentennial logo connected a national historical celebration with one of the country’s most visible technological institutions.
