What name is given to Yggdrasil as the tree sheltering Líf and Lífþrasir after Ragnarok?

The story behind the answer

The name given to Yggdrasil as the refuge of Líf and Lífþrasir is Hoddmímis holt.

In Vafþrúðnismál, Odin asks who will survive the devastating Fimbulvetr, the great winter preceding Ragnarök. The answer is Líf and Lífþrasir, who hide in Hoddmímis holt and live on morning dew until the world can be repopulated. Snorri’s Gylfaginning repeats this account, placing their refuge during Surtr’s fire.

Hoddmímis holt literally refers to “Hoard-Mímir’s” wood or grove. Because it shelters the human survivors and is closely tied to Mímir, scholars often identify it with Yggdrasil or with a location within the world tree. The texts do not plainly state, in one sentence, that Hoddmímis holt is Yggdrasil, so the identification is interpretive but standard.

Mímameiðr is a common mix-up: scholars also connect that “Mímir’s tree” with Yggdrasil, but Hoddmímis holt is the name directly associated with Líf and Lífþrasir’s hiding place.
