What name is given to Georgia O'Keeffe's 1932 painting of a white flower with a dark center?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe's 1932 white-flower painting is titled Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1.

The painting shows a large white jimson weed blossom against a dark background. O'Keeffe enlarged flowers so viewers would notice forms and details that might otherwise be overlooked. Her flower paintings became some of her best-known works, although she rejected the idea that they should be read simply as symbolic images.

Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1 became especially famous after selling at auction in 2014 for $44.4 million. That price made it, at the time, the most expensive artwork by a female artist ever sold at auction.

It is often confused with O'Keeffe paintings titled Black Iris or Red Canna. Those are different flower works, while this title specifically identifies the white jimson weed painting.
