Aragorn’s sword receives the name Andúril after being reforged in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.
Andúril is made from the shards of Narsil, the sword that cut the One Ring from Sauron’s hand during the end of the Second Age. The reforging takes place before Aragorn joins the Fellowship’s journey from Rivendell.
The name Andúril is Quenya and means “Flame of the West.” It marks Aragorn’s identity as the heir of Isildur and presents the sword as a symbol of restored royal authority.
Narsil and Andúril are therefore connected but not interchangeable: Narsil is the original sword, while Andúril is its reforged form.
