What movie released in the 1990's featured both William Baldwin and Kurt Russell?

The story behind the answer

The 1990s movie featuring both William Baldwin and Kurt Russell was Backdraft.

Released in 1991, Backdraft is an action thriller directed by Ron Howard. It follows Chicago firefighters and investigators pursuing a serial arsonist whose crimes involve a dangerous phenomenon known as a backdraft. Kurt Russell plays veteran firefighter Stephen “Bull” McCaffrey, while William Baldwin plays his younger brother, Brian McCaffrey.

The film was built around the specialized world of firefighting. Before filming, the principal actors trained with real Chicago firefighters and visited the Chicago Fire Academy. Industrial Light & Magic contributed visual effects, while Hans Zimmer composed the score, including the film’s memorable dramatic music.

Backdraft earned about $152 million worldwide and received three Academy Award nominations at the 64th Academy Awards: Best Sound, Best Sound Editing, and Best Visual Effects. A common mix-up is confusing it with Backdraft 2, a 2019 direct-to-video sequel in which Baldwin reprised his role.
