What mountain is the mythological home of the Queen Mother of the West?
Answer
Kunlun Mountain
Answer
Kunlun Mountain
The mythological home of the Queen Mother of the West is Kunlun Mountain. In Chinese mythology, Kunlun is a remote sacred mountain and cosmic axis, often imagined as a paradise where immortals and divine beings gather.
The Queen Mother of the West, or Xiwangmu, is frequently portrayed holding court in a palace on Kunlun. Her realm is associated with the Jade Pond, immortality, and the peaches of immortality—fruit said to confer extraordinarily long life. In the story of King Mu of Zhou, the ruler travels westward and encounters her on the mythic mountain.
There is an important historical nuance. Some early traditions place Xiwangmu on Jade Mountain rather than Kunlun, and later accounts merge or relocate these settings. Nevertheless, Kunlun Mountain became the standard and most widely recognized answer in Chinese mythology and Taoist-themed trivia. It should not be confused with the real Kunlun Mountains of Central Asia, which helped inspire the mythic geography.
