What mountain appears on the packaging of Toblerone chocolate?

The story behind the answer

The Matterhorn appears on the packaging of Toblerone chocolate.

Toblerone is a Swiss chocolate bar created in Bern in 1908 by Theodor Tobler and Emil Baumann. Its distinctive triangular pieces are widely associated with the pointed profile of the Matterhorn, the famous mountain on the Swiss-Italian border.

The product name combines Tobler’s surname with “torrone,” an Italian word for nougat. Toblerone’s chocolate contains honey-and-almond nougat, which gives the bar its characteristic chewy texture alongside the chocolate.

The mountain image is more than decorative branding: it connects the product with Switzerland and the Alpine landscape. The Matterhorn itself rises to 4,478 metres and is one of the best-known peaks in Europe. The logo has also included a hidden bear, a reference to Bern, whose name and heraldry are linked with bears.
