G.U.N. is the Guardian Units of Nations, a government-backed military and security organization in Sonic Adventure 2. It pursues Sonic after mistaking him for Shadow the Hedgehog, who has stolen a Chaos Emerald and resembles Sonic closely enough to cause the misunderstanding.
The organization is tied to the game’s opening events at a high-security facility. Doctor Eggman breaks into that facility to awaken Shadow, using information from the diary of his grandfather, Professor Gerald Robotnik. G.U.N. subsequently treats Sonic as the culprit and arrests him.
G.U.N. is not simply a one-scene enemy force. Its history is connected to the Space Colony ARK, Gerald’s research, and the death of Maria Robotnik. Gerald’s resentment toward the organization and the government drives the catastrophic plan involving the Eclipse Cannon.
