What McDonald’s character is depicted as a smiling cheeseburger wearing a mayoral sash?

The McDonald’s character depicted as a smiling cheeseburger wearing a mayoral sash was Mayor McCheese.

Mayor McCheese was one of the central figures in McDonaldland, McDonald’s fictional advertising setting. His oversized cheeseburger head, formal clothing, and mayoral role made him one of the most distinctive characters in the campaign.

He is sometimes confused with Officer Big Mac, another McDonaldland figure whose head was shaped like a Big Mac. The two characters shared the same imaginative advertising world but represented different branded identities.

Mayor McCheese appeared in McDonald’s advertising during the period when the company used a large ensemble of fantasy characters. That approach gave children a story-like world to recognize across television commercials, restaurant materials, and promotional merchandise.
