Red and yellow became especially associated with McDonald’s restaurants and Golden Arches signage.
The bright pairing helped McDonald’s buildings, signs, packaging, and advertising stand out at a distance. Yellow connected naturally with the Golden Arches, while red supplied a strong contrasting field that made the symbol highly visible on roadside signs and restaurant façades.
Color use varied by country, restaurant design, and era, so the palette was not an absolute rule for every McDonald’s location. Modern restaurants may use more muted materials and additional colors, especially in interior design. Even so, red and yellow remain the classic visual shorthand for the brand and are closely tied to the public image created during McDonald’s postwar expansion.
