What letter does the red Daihatsu emblem form?

The story behind the answer

The red Daihatsu emblem forms the letter D.

Daihatsu’s modern symbol is a stylized red D, chosen as a compact visual representation of the company name. The angular design is commonly placed above or beside the Daihatsu wordmark on vehicles, dealerships, promotional materials, and corporate communications.

Daihatsu is a Japanese manufacturer best known for compact cars, kei cars, and small utility vehicles. Its origins trace back to Hatsudoki Seizo Co., founded in Osaka in 1907. The company adopted the Daihatsu name in 1951, combining “dai,” referring to Osaka, with “hatsu,” from Hatsudoki.

The emblem can sometimes be confused with a generic geometric symbol because its straight outer edge and open interior are highly simplified. It is nevertheless intended to be read as the initial D of Daihatsu, not as a separate pictorial object. Toyota became Daihatsu’s parent company in 2016.
