What kind of trainee is Abby Cadabby?

Abby Cadabby is a fairy-in-training.

Abby is a pink Muppet fairy who joined Sesame Street in 2006, debuting at the beginning of the show's 37th season. She comes from Fairyland and is the daughter of the Fairy Godmother. Although she already has magical abilities, she is still learning how to use them properly.

Her training is featured in the animated segment Abby's Flying Fairy School, where she studies magic alongside classmates such as Blögg and Gonnigan. Sparklenose is her teacher. Abby's spells can produce surprising results, which fits the show's educational emphasis on curiosity, experimentation, and learning from mistakes.

A common mix-up is calling Abby simply a fairy or a fairy godmother. She is a fairy, but she is not the Fairy Godmother herself; that is her mother. Abby's name is also a playful reference to “abracadabra.” Her magical skills include popping in and out of thin air, floating when happy, and transforming objects into pumpkins.
