Aslan is a lion in C.S. Lewis’s Narnia books.
Aslan is the central ruler and creator figure of the world of Narnia. He first appears in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, where he opposes the White Witch and gives his life to rescue Edmund Pevensie. He returns to life through the deeper magic and helps defeat the Witch’s forces.
The name Aslan comes from the Turkish word for “lion.” Lewis presents the character as majestic, powerful, compassionate, and morally authoritative. The character is widely understood as an allegorical representation of Jesus Christ, although Lewis preferred to describe the Narnia stories through imaginative parallels rather than a simple one-to-one code.
Aslan appears in all seven Chronicles of Narnia books, though his role and visibility vary. He is not merely an animal companion: within the fiction, he is the great lion who created and governs Narnia.
