The Jewish prayer of praise recited in full on each day of Hanukkah is Hallel. It is traditionally included in the morning Shacharit service throughout all eight days of the festival.
Full Hallel consists of Psalms 113 through 118. These psalms praise God and celebrate deliverance, making them appropriate for Hanukkah’s themes of salvation, thanksgiving, and the recovery and rededication of the Jerusalem Temple after the Maccabean revolt.
Hanukkah is one of the occasions on which the complete form is recited. This distinguishes it from the partial Hallel said on the later days of Passover and on Rosh Chodesh. Hallel is also separate from Al HaNissim, a shorter Hanukkah addition inserted into the Amidah and Birkat Hamazon. Yizkor, Kol Nidre, and Kaddish are important Jewish liturgical texts, but none is the daily Hanukkah praise service described here.
