What island was Rihanna born on?

The story behind the answer

Rihanna was born on the Caribbean island country of Barbados. Robyn Rihanna Fenty was born on February 20, 1988, in Saint Michael, Barbados, and grew up in and around the capital, Bridgetown.

Her Barbadian background became an important part of her public identity. Before becoming an international star, she performed with local friends and was discovered in Barbados by American producer Evan Rogers, who helped create demo recordings that eventually reached Def Jam Recordings executive Jay-Z.

Rihanna is sometimes incorrectly associated with nearby Caribbean countries because of the region's shared musical and cultural traditions. Barbados is distinct from Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica, all of which are separate island nations. Rihanna has continued to represent Barbados internationally and was appointed an ambassador of the country in 2018, with responsibilities including education, tourism, and investment.
