The men's shot put world record is 23.56 meters.
American thrower Ryan Crouser set the record in Los Angeles on May 27, 2023. The mark surpassed his own previous world record of 23.38 meters and confirmed his position as the dominant shot putter of his era. Crouser later won the 2024 Olympic title, adding another major achievement to his record-setting career.
Shot put is measured from the front of a circular throwing circle to the nearest point where the shot lands. The men's shot weighs 7.26 kilograms, or 16 pounds, and athletes must put it from the shoulder with one hand rather than throw it like a ball. A legal attempt must also remain within the marked landing sector.
The figures in the wrong options are notable performances, but they are not the world record. Crouser's 23.56-meter effort is also the North American, Central American and Caribbean area record.
