What is the traditional mountain associated with Noah's Ark's resting place?

The story behind the answer

Mount Ararat is the traditional mountain associated with Noah's Ark's resting place.

Genesis 8:4 says that the ark came to rest on the “mountains of Ararat.” Ararat refers to a historical region connected with the kingdom of Urartu, rather than explicitly naming one modern peak. Over time, Jewish, Christian, and later popular traditions increasingly associated the passage with Mount Ararat in eastern Turkey.

The mountain is a volcanic massif with two principal summits: Greater Ararat and Little Ararat. Greater Ararat is the highest mountain in Turkey, rising to about 5,137 metres.

The biblical wording is plural and does not identify a precise summit. Consequently, Mount Ararat is a traditional identification, not a statement that Genesis itself names the modern mountain. Archaeological claims about finding the ark there remain unverified.
