What is the top speed of a standard Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk8?

The story behind the answer

The standard Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk8 has a top speed of 250 km/h.

The eighth-generation GTI was revealed in 2020 as the performance version of the Golf Mk8. Its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine produces 245 PS and 370 Nm of torque, sending power to the front wheels through either a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, depending on market and model year.

The 250 km/h figure is the electronically limited maximum for the standard Mk8 GTI. It should not be confused with the lower top speeds of ordinary Golf versions, which vary by engine and equipment, or with acceleration figures such as the GTI’s 0–100 km/h time of about 6.3 seconds.

The GTI Clubsport and Golf R are related but distinct models. The Clubsport also reaches 250 km/h, while some later Mk8.5 versions gained more power; those updates do not change the standard Mk8 GTI’s quoted top-speed answer.
