What is the title of the third novel in Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games trilogy?

The story behind the answer

The third novel in Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games trilogy is Mockingjay.

Published in 2010, Mockingjay concludes the original trilogy that began with The Hunger Games in 2008 and continued with Catching Fire in 2009. The story follows Katniss Everdeen as the rebellion against the Capitol expands into a full-scale war.

Mockingjay is set mainly after Katniss has been rescued from the Quarter Quell arena and taken to District 13. Its title refers to the symbolic bird created by the accidental combination of the Capitol’s jabberjay and the wild mockingbird.

Readers sometimes confuse the trilogy’s third book with The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, a 2020 prequel set decades earlier. Sunrise on the Reaping, published in 2025, is another prequel, not the trilogy’s conclusion.
