The third film in Pixar’s Cars series is titled Cars 3.
Cars 3 was released in 2017 and follows Lightning McQueen as a new generation of high-tech racers threatens his position in the sport. The story focuses on aging, adaptation, mentorship, and the pressure to remain competitive.
Jackson Storm is the leading new rival, while Cruz Ramirez becomes McQueen’s trainer and eventually an important racing partner. Their relationship gives the film a different emphasis from Cars 2, which centered more heavily on international espionage.
Brian Fee directed Cars 3, making it his feature-directing debut. The film returned to the world of professional racing and revisited characters and locations from the original movie. It is the latest released feature in the Cars film series, although Cars-related shorts and television projects have continued.
