The song on Radiohead’s OK Computer that features the repeated “rain down” refrain is “Paranoid Android.” It is the album’s long, multi-section centerpiece and was released as its lead single in 1997.
“Paranoid Android” was built from several contrasting musical sections rather than a conventional verse-and-chorus structure. The “rain down” passage arrives after the song’s more aggressive opening movements, shifting into an expansive, choir-like section before the track returns to its refrain. Radiohead’s members worked much of the arrangement out during rehearsals.
The song’s title refers to Marvin the Paranoid Android from Douglas Adams’s The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, although Thom Yorke’s lyrics also draw on a disturbing experience in a Los Angeles bar. It is commonly confused with “Karma Police” because both are major OK Computer songs, but “rain down” belongs specifically to “Paranoid Android.”
