What is the title of the second Oz book by L. Frank Baum?

The story behind the answer

The second Oz book by L. Frank Baum is The Marvelous Land of Oz.

Published in July 1904, the book follows The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Baum’s 1900 novel, and continues the series beyond Dorothy Gale’s first adventure. Dorothy is largely absent from this sequel, whose central character is an orphaned boy named Tip, raised by the harsh witch Mombi in the northern Gillikin Country.

The novel introduces several characters who became important to Oz mythology, including Princess Ozma, Jack Pumpkinhead, the Saw-Horse, and the highly magnified Woggle-Bug. It also brings back the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman, expanding their lives after Dorothy’s departure from Oz.

Readers sometimes confuse this title with Ozma of Oz, which is the third Oz book, published in 1907, or The Patchwork Girl of Oz, a much later installment. The first edition’s full title was The Marvelous Land of Oz: Being an Account of the Further Adventures of the Scarecrow and Tin Woodman and Also the Strange Experiences of the Highly-Magnified Woggle-Bug, Jack Pumpkinhead, the Animated Saw-Horse and the Gump.
