Pixar’s second feature film about Lightning McQueen is titled Cars 2.
Released in 2011, Cars 2 follows McQueen as he enters the World Grand Prix, an international racing competition organized to promote a new alternative fuel. The story also gives Mater a central role in a spy adventure involving secret agents and an international conspiracy.
The film moves beyond Radiator Springs and visits locations including Tokyo, Porto Corsa, and London. Its action-oriented structure differs from the more intimate road-and-community story of the original Cars.
Cars 2 was directed by John Lasseter and Brad Lewis. It was Pixar’s twelfth feature film and the studio’s first sequel released after the Toy Story films, although it was not the first Pixar sequel overall by the time of later franchise releases.
