What is the title of Pixar’s animated short series centered on Mater’s stories?

Mater’s Tall Tales is the title of Pixar’s animated short series centered on Mater’s stories.

The series consists of short episodes in which Mater tells increasingly improbable stories about his supposed past adventures. Lightning McQueen often listens to him, and the episodes play with whether Mater’s claims are true or simply entertaining exaggerations.

The shorts began with the 2008 episode “Rescue Squad Mater.” Later stories place Mater in settings involving racing, espionage, monster trucks, and other exaggerated situations. The series was originally known as Cars Toons and is also associated with the title Mater’s Tall Tales.

The shorts differ from the Cars feature films because each episode is a compact comedy built around Mater’s storytelling. They expanded the franchise between theatrical releases and helped establish Mater as a lead character beyond his supporting role in the first film.
