What is the title of Lorde's 2013 debut studio album?

The story behind the answer

Lorde’s 2013 debut studio album is Pure Heroine.

Released on September 27, 2013, the album established the New Zealand singer-songwriter as a major international artist. Its minimalist blend of electronica, electropop and dream pop contrasted with the heavily produced pop dominating the charts at the time. Lorde recorded the album primarily with producer Joel Little at Golden Age Studios in Auckland.

Pure Heroine grew from the success of Lorde’s earlier The Love Club EP, which included “Royals.” The album expanded that song’s themes of class, celebrity culture and suburban teenage life across tracks such as “Tennis Court,” “Team” and “Glory and Gore.”

A common mix-up is confusing Pure Heroine with The Love Club, which was an earlier EP rather than the debut studio album. Solar Power and Melodrama are later Lorde albums: Melodrama followed in 2017, while Solar Power arrived in 2021.
