Hasan Minhaj’s 2017 Netflix stand-up special about his Indian-American upbringing is titled Homecoming King.
The filmed special draws on Minhaj’s experiences as the child of Indian Muslim immigrants in the United States, including family expectations, racism, belonging, and cultural identity. It was recorded at the Mondavi Center in Davis, California, and uses storytelling, projected visuals, and theatrical staging alongside conventional stand-up.
Homecoming King helped establish Minhaj as a major solo performer after his work as a correspondent on The Daily Show. It is distinct from Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj, his later Netflix weekly series, and from The King’s Jester, a separate stand-up special released in 2022.
