Beyoncé’s 2016 studio album containing “Formation” is Lemonade.
Lemonade was released on April 23, 2016, through Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records. It was accompanied by a one-hour film of the same name, which premiered on HBO. The project combines songs, poetry, and visual sequences into a work organized around themes such as betrayal, grief, identity, family, resilience, and reconciliation.
“Formation” was released as the album’s lead single in February 2016, before the full album appeared. Other prominent songs include “Sorry,” “Hold Up,” “Freedom,” and “All Night.” The album features guest appearances from artists including Jack White, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, and James Blake.
Lemonade received widespread critical acclaim and became Beyoncé’s sixth consecutive solo album to debut at number one on the Billboard 200. It earned the Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album. The album is distinct from Dangerously in Love, which is the title referenced in the excluded earlier question and Beyoncé’s 2003 debut.
