What is the tallest building in Asia (and the world) as of 2025?

The story behind the answer

The tallest building in Asia—and in the world as of 2025—is the Burj Khalifa. Rising 828 metres to its architectural top, the skyscraper dominates Dubai’s skyline and remains far taller than China’s Shanghai Tower and the 828-metre class of other supertall buildings.

Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the tower was developed by Emaar Properties and officially opened in January 2010. Its design combines a three-lobed floor plan inspired by the desert flower Hymenocallis with a central buttressed core that helps it withstand Dubai’s strong winds. The structure contains residences, offices, hotels, restaurants and observation decks.

A common mix-up is the difference between architectural height and total height. The Burj Khalifa measures 828 metres to the top of its spire and about 829.8 metres including the antenna. It also surpassed Taipei 101, which had been the world’s tallest building since 2004. Its height record has remained unbroken through 2025.
