What is the subtitle of the 1982 Star Trek film?

The story behind the answer

The subtitle of the 1982 Star Trek film is The Wrath of Khan. Officially titled Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, it is the second feature film in the franchise and the direct follow-up to 1979's Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

The story brings Admiral James T. Kirk into conflict with Khan Noonien Singh, a genetically enhanced human first seen in the original television episode “Space Seed.” Khan seeks revenge after Kirk exiled him and his followers to the harsh planet Ceti Alpha V. Ricardo Montalbán reprised the role for the film.

Directed by Nicholas Meyer, the movie shifted toward tighter character drama, faster pacing, and higher-stakes action. Its story also introduced the Genesis Device, a scientific project capable of transforming a lifeless world, while exploring aging, friendship, sacrifice, and the consequences of past decisions.

The subtitle is often confused with those of later films: The Search for Spock is Star Trek III, The Voyage Home is Star Trek IV, and The Final Frontier is Star Trek V.
