The standard English romanization of the Korean holiday 추석 is Chuseok.
“Chuseok” follows South Korea’s Revised Romanization system, which represents the Hangul syllables 추 and 석 as “chu” and “seok.” English-language references, international media, and tourism materials commonly use this spelling.
Older romanization systems may produce forms such as Ch'usŏk, and informal English writing sometimes omits or changes vowel marks. Those variants can appear in older sources, but Chuseok is the standard modern form used for the holiday’s English name.
The festival is also called Hangawi in Korean tradition and is often translated as Korean Thanksgiving. That translation highlights the harvest and family dimensions, but Chuseok remains the established English transliteration rather than a literal translation.
