What is the standard diameter of the cork base of a feather badminton shuttlecock?

The story behind the answer

The standard diameter of the cork base of a feather badminton shuttlecock is 25–28 millimetres.

A regulation feather shuttlecock combines a rounded cork base with 16 natural feathers arranged in a cone. The cork provides the weighted striking surface, while the feathers create aerodynamic drag that helps the shuttle decelerate rapidly after it is hit.

The base is usually covered with a thin layer of leather or another suitable material. Its size and shape help produce consistent contact with the racket and stable rotation during flight.

This measurement is different from the shuttlecock’s overall diameter, which is much larger because of the feather skirt. It is also separate from the permitted shuttlecock weight, which is 4.74 to 5.50 grams.
